The BSE benchmark Sensex breached the historic 84,000-mark for first time ever on Friday morning and the Nifty also hit its new record high level, tracking a rally in global markets, after the US Federal Reserve cut its benchmark interest rate after more than four years.

The Sensex closed above 84,000 for the first time, driven by a rally in frontline bank stocks and optimistic trends in US and Asian markets. This surge allowed equity investors to see their wealth grow by Rs 6.

India's NSE Nifty 50 and S&P BSE Sensex are trailing only Wall Street's Nasdaq and S&P 500 as top-performing indexes this year, with analysts expecting the rally to extend into 2025.

At closing, Sensex was up 1,359 points, or 1.63 per cent, at 84,544 and Nifty was up 375 points, or 1.48 per cent, at 25,790. Nifty Bank was up 755 points, or 1.42 per cent, at 53,793.

The Indian equity benchmarks created new record highs on Friday boosted by strong trend in US markets overnight. The Sensex rose as much as 975 points to hit new record high of 84,159.90 and Nifty 50 index touched an all-time high of 25,

Within the Nifty index, several prominent companies, including NTPC, Titan, Kotak Bank, And Nestle India were among the top gainers. On the other hand BPCL, Coal India, ONGC , And Adani Ports were the the top losers.

The two key equity benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty, on Friday are trading in the green, led by overnight gains in the US stock markets, amid positive cues from Asian markets. At 10.05 am, the BSE Sensex rose 520 points to 83,

The trends on Gift Nifty also indicate a mildly positive start for the Indian benchmark index. The Gift Nifty was trading around 25,530 level, a premium of nearly 40 points from the Nifty futures’ previous close.

The session was volatile, the bulls took control by the end of the day followed by the US Fed Rate cut decision.
