EAST LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Michigan State men’s basketball won two games at the Breslin Center last week, 90-85 over Penn State and 80-78 over No. 19 Illinois, and moved up four spots to No. 8 in this week’s Associated Press Top 25 Men’s College Basketball Poll. The Spartans are ranked in the AP top 10 for the first time since 2019.

While MSU’s win over Illinois was huge, Purdue’s win over Oregon was even more impressive, as the Boilermakers took down the Ducks on the road. Without a loss to the scrappy Penn State Nittany Lions, that win would have put them in the No. 1 spot.

Michigan basketball didn’t exactly have a great week. Sure, it got a win on Sunday in overtime against Northwestern, but it also had an inexplicable loss early in the week at Minnesota — also in overtime.

The Michigan Wolverines fell one spot in the latest AP Poll, dropping from No. 20 to No. 21 on Monday. The drop comes after the Wolverines suffered an 84-81 road loss to Minnesota in overtime last Thursday.
