Lawmakers who served on the House committee investigating Trump's actions tied to the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol riot have been split about the importance of a preemptive pardon.

Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.), who headed Congress’s special investigation into the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, said Tuesday that he has been in talks with the White House about presidential pardons.

Members of the Jan. 6 select committee are privately discussing presidential pardons with the White House days before the return of Donald Trump, who has publicly threatened vengeance against them and other political enemies.

Several top members of the House Select Committee on the January 6 Attack are reportedly in talks with President Joe Biden about preemptive pardons before he leaves office on January 20. That's according to a Tuesday report from Punchbowl News,
