Though the Colorado Avalanche have already played a game (and lost to the Boston Bruins) since the NHL was rocked, they are still clearly recovering in the wake of the massive trade that saw forward Mikko Rantanen shipped to the Carolina Hurricanes.

It’s become a pattern now — the Colorado Avalanche look like the better team for the better part of the first 40 minutes and then the final period is a problem.

The Avalanche lost to the New York Islanders 5-2 at UBS Arena on Tuesday. Artturi Lehkonen and Jack Drury scored for Colorado while Martin Necas posted two assists. Anders Lee put the Islanders on the board first at 4:11 of the second period.
