AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - Monday is Martin Luther King Jr. Day and the NAACP Amarillo Branch is hosting a celebration. There will be a parade at noon on Monday. Lineups for the parade will start at the Amarillo United Citizens Forum on 901 North Hayden Street.

The Amarillo Community gathered to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s life and legacy at the Palo Duro Activity Center.

The Anthony, Canutillo, Clint, El Paso, Gadsden, Fabens, Ysleta and Socorro independent school districts will be closed for the holiday, as well as Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso and the University of Texas at El Paso.

The festival shared information and hosted activities, including story times, games and essay reading for attendees.

This year, in addition to the Sherman High School choir performing, several keynote speakers attested to the legacy of Dr. King, and how he inspired them to be a voice for change.
