Mikko Rantanen is enjoying a standout season, but it appears that the Colorado Avalanche and the star winger are not close to reaching a new contract agreement.
The Colorado Avalanche and superstar winger Mikko Rantanen are at an impasse in contract extension negotiations, Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli reported on Thursday's Amazon "Coast to Coast" broadcast.
According to PuckPedia, MacKinnon's cap hit of $12.6 million took 15.09% of the Avalanche's salary cap. If Rantanen signs for a slightly lower percentage of 15% under the new cap, expected to reach $92.4 million, he'd already earn $13.86 million per season and easily top MacKinnon's salary.
Rantanen notched an assist, two blocked shots and two PIM in Thursday's 4-3 loss to the Oilers.
