Al Arbour used to tell a young Brent Sutter not to play with a chip on his shoulder. The Islanders, who already had one Sutter among the team leaders in penalty minutes, did not need another doing the same.

Although the Islanders were headlined by Hall of Fame talent during their dynasty, one of their unsung heroes was Stefan Persson. The Swedish defenseman played nine years in the league, all with the Islanders, tallying 52 goals and 317 assists for 369 points in 622 games.

Renowned as a two-way center and faceoff specialist, Sutter compiled 287 goals and 323 assists in 694 games for the Islanders.

They played connected, fast hockey in a matchup of last place teams to snap a two-game losing streak. Before the game, the team inducted Brent Sutter into its Hall of Fame.

Mathew Barzal and Brock Nelson each had a goal and an assist and the Islanders beat the San Jose Sharks 4-1 Saturday night.
