Van Wyk seemingly pulled off the improbable in the second and final round of the APGA Farmers Insurance Invitational when he shot one-under-par 71 in cold and breezy conditions, and then made two straight birdies on the South’s par-5 18th hole to prevail in a three-man playoff.

English tasted victory for the first time in a span of 1,308 days, and enjoyed celebrating his success with his 1½ – year-old daughter, Emilia, for the first time. “You think it would get easier being in this position a lot, then winning four times out here,” English said, “but it never gets easier.”

Harris English first flirted with fame at the Farmers Insurance Open a decade ago when he shared the third-round lead and was part of a four-man playoff for the 2015 championship. Jason Day came away the winner that year at Torrey Pines, but English was encouraged, not discouraged.
