Thunderstorms erupted over parts of Hawaii early Friday as a powerful storm system begins to move away from the 50th state but not before leaving behind flooding and wind damage.

Honolulu's prosecuting attorney said police officers who arrested a man they mistook for a suspect in a New Year's Day manhunt used justifiable force.

Maui County experienced downed trees, facility and school closures, and power outages due to the storm.
