A day after replacing the fired Derek Lalonde as Detroit coach, and without even one full practice under his belt with his new club, Todd McLellan was behind the bench on Friday in a 5-2 Red Wings loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs at Little Caesars Arena.

It's been a hectic 48 hours for Todd McLellan, who arrived Thursday in Detroit around 8 p.m. and was coaching the Red Wings the following morning.

McLellan, in charge of the Red Wings’ potent power play back in the day, needs to get more out of top-six forwards Dylan Larkin, Alex DeBrincat, Patrick Kane and particularly Vladimir Tarasenko. He needs to tap into Michael Rasmussen, Jonatan Berggren and Marco Kasper’s potential.
